The Housing Authority of the Township of Irvington through the vision and direction of the Executive Director, David A. Brown has hired a Social Service Coordinator who has 21 years in the field of social services.

Ms. Crenshaw is a state Certified Social Worker with a Masters Degree in Human Behavior and also holds a Public Housing Manager (PHM) Certification. She is here to serve the needs of the resident population with sound services they can rely on!

RESIDENT SERVICES AVAILABLE


The Social Services Department in collaboration with local agencies is available to meet the needs of Irvington Housing Authority Residents.
These Services include:

SENIOR NUTRITIONAL LUNCH PROGRAM

Located at 624 Nye Avenue -Community Room. Hours of operation are daily. Monday-Friday- 10:30am-12:30pm for a fee of $1.75 or donation.
RETAIL EXPRESS SERVICE-IRVINGTON POST OFFICE

On the fourth day of each month, the Irvington Post Office Retail Express Van is located at 624 Nye Ave parking lot from 10:00 am to 10:30 am . Residents are able to purchase Money Orders, Postage Stamps, Envelopes and Mail Packages
FREE BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING

On the first Wednesday of each month, free blood pressure screening is taken at 624 Nye Avenue at 1:00pm and at 81 Union Avenue at 1:30pm . Every Third Wednesday of each month, free blood pressure screening will take place at 101 Union Avenue at 2:00pm and at 141 Union Avenue at 2:30pm in the Community Room. This service is provided by PatientCare.
IRVINGTON GENERAL HOSPITAL


Presents Monthly Seminars on Aging, Arthris, Creative Writing Workshops, Support Groups and Monthly Exercise classes. Services also include free M.E.D.S. Program (Medical Emergency Data Sheet) to keep track of Prescriptions/Meditations in the event of your illness. Programs also include a Monthly Senior Supper, which includes a scrumptious meal for only $2.50 and talks on many issues related to seniors. Transportation is available to Irvington General Hospital when scheduled in advance. call Pam to reserve a seat at 973-399-5009.

NEWARK BETH ISRAEL MEDICAL CENTER-CENTER FOR GERIATRIC HEALTHCARE


NEWARK BETH ISRAEL MEDICAL CENTER-CENTER FOR GERIATRIC HEALTHCARE has made available to the Irvington Housing Authority Residents, a free Premier Health Membership Network for adults over 50 which serves to keep you in touch with healthy living. The programs offer Seminars, Screenings, Social Events, Support Groups and Wellness Programs for Seniors. Discounts are provided on hospital TV, Telephone and Parking. Many other services are available, such as:


Free Health Screenings for Foot Problems, Blood Pressure and HIV.
Support Groups including Alzheimer's, Arthritis, Diabetes and Bereavement;
Exercise Classes, Health Insurance Counseling, Discounts at area Restaurants and Businesses, Adult Day Health Care. Care Givers Support and a Free Newsletter. Applications are available in the Social Service Office.
MEALS ON WHEELS


Available to Irvington Housing Authority Residents who have recently been released from the hospital or other care facility or those who are home-bound without a home helath side

ON SITE DOCTOR'S OFFICE


Irvington Housing Authority Residents have an on-site Doctor's office which is located at 81 Union Avenue,#2-S, Bell #019. Call 973-399-4126

EYE GLASSES FOR THE NEEDY


Free Eyeglasses have been made possible to Irvington Housing Authority Residents by the NJEASE Program. Anyone needing new glasses should contact the Social Service Coordinator.

FREE COUNSELING


Provided to Residents of the Irvington Housing Authority by a grant from Essex Country to the United Labor Agency-Essex-West Hudson, Inc., at 30 Clinton Street , Newark , NJ . Substance Abuse Counseling, Support Groups, Stress, Financial Issues and Special Services. You can take advantage of this service by calling 973-623-7878. Be sure to identify yourself as a resident of the Irvington Housing Authority.

 
FREE TRANSPORTATION


To Doctor Offices, ShopRite, PathMark, Kmart, Red Lobster. I-HOP and other stores and events are available. Please check the bulletin boards for monthly schedules and call Pam at 973-399-5009 to reserve a space

 
APPLICATIONS


Applications are available in the Social Service Office for programs such as, PAAD, Together RX, M.E.D.S., Premier Health Membership, Verizon-Lifeline, Home Energy Assistance, Priority Nursing Services and Patient Care Inc and 2nd Home Adult Medical Day Care Center .
